Breek × Paris Ouest Construction: from plan reading to technical proposals, and from project to knowledge management
Breek · case study, innovation, plans
In construction, plan reading is both essential and costly. It requires expert profiles, it repeats from one project to the next, and it quickly becomes a bottleneck as the volume of plans and versions increases. With Paris Ouest Construction, we launched a collaboration to transform this step into a business lever: saving time, securing quality, and capitalizing on knowledge.
1) An immediate challenge: produce faster, with fewer risks
When analysis is manual (PDFs on one side, spreadsheets on the other), the issue is not just the time spent. It's also the risk of oversights, inconsistencies between work packages, and rework when plans evolve. Our approach aims to structure information from plans in order to reduce effort and make the technical substance more reliable.
2) A direct link with writing technical proposals
A solid technical proposal relies on concrete elements: clear scopes, explicit assumptions, and proof of understanding the project. By making plan data and markups more readily usable, we directly feed the writing process:
- more precise technical descriptions,
- more credible justifications,
- more "actionable" deliverables for teams and partners (annotated extracts, tables).
Result: a more coherent submission that can improve win rates and protect margins (fewer grey areas, fewer surprises during execution).
3) The real long-term differentiator: client-side knowledge management
Beyond a single project, the challenge is to stop starting from scratch. This collaboration aims to enable clients to build a cumulative asset:
- standards by typology (zones, equipment, marking methods),
- reusable elements in technical proposals,
- continuity despite team turnover and version changes.
On the business side, this translates into a production cost per submission that decreases over time, the ability to handle more tenders at consistent quality, and less dependence on a few key experts.
In summary
With Paris Ouest Construction, we are working to make plan reading a building block that serves both operations (efficiency, reliability) and business performance (more convincing proposals, knowledge capitalization, scalability).
